L’ESPERANCE

1948 June 6. Arrived from Alderney.
The vessel came to Jersey after the War, and was operating by August 1 1948.
She traded to the smaller French ports such as Granville, Carteret, Le Legue as well
as Saint Malo, Sark and other ports as required. Her cargoes included -
She underwent a major overhaul during 1950 / 1951, and was used in 1954 to transport the materials required for improvements to La Maseline Harbour at Sark.
L’ESPERANCE continued in service until the early 1960’s
1968 January 6. Put ashore on the beach in St. Aubin’s Bay after the hull was stripped, then
set alight.

1948 September 8. Arrived from Brest.
1948 October 6. Advert for vessel – Available for cruise £10 for day, £15 for two
days. Can take up to 12 passengers.
1949 September. Vessel in service in Jersey, being used to provide a cargo service
mainly for market garden produce from Granville for local Jersey merchant
Messrs John Terry.
1951 Due to engine problems with the States tug DUKE OF NORMANDY
vessel was used to tow States barge LA MAUVE as required during the year.
Initially ADRAIA remained in Jersey during the winter, but in about 1952 she started to go north to the Isle of Man to fish for scallops, returning to Jersey for the summer. She arrived Jersey from Falmouth on May 7 1953, and this could have been her last period in Jersey.
When fishing in the the Isle of Man she was based at Port Erin, and was replaced by a new vessel in 1957. She was then laid up at Castletown.

2005 Vessel was owned by IT Ferries in Alderney for a service to Cherbourg.
2006 Acquired by Harbour Facilities (St. Helier) Ltd., and used mainly on a cargo
service between Granville and Jersey.
2010 December. Vessel taken out of service, and remained in St. Helier.

NORMANDY TRADER 2012 -

Built Richard Dunston, Thorne 1964
Tonnage 73.98 tons, chassed as a work boat.
Dimensions 27.40m oa x 6.39m x 1.9m
Propulsion Twin water jets, 2 x 360hp Volvo engines. 7kts.
Vessel was built as LCU 705 and had the Pennant Number P3. She is one of a number of Mk 9 Landing Craft built to populate the two Assault Ships H.M.S. FEARLESS and H.M.S. INTREPID.
The Mk 9’s were found to be very useful craft, and in the 1970’s they were improved
by having their hulls raised by about four feet, the wheel house also heightened.

When purchased, this craft was one of the last three in Naval ownership, and lying at Southampton. She arrived in Jersey on November 8 2011, and following overhaul and conversion for merchant use, NORMANDY TRADER as the vessel was named, undertook her maiden voyage to Granville on February 10 2012.

GRIMA
The vessel was built in 1974 for service in the Shetland Islands, being sold in 2004 and converted into a work boat. Acquired by Rozel Shipping in July 2016 she operated a cargo service between Jersey and Granville.
She departed Jersey Thursday March 29 2018 having been sold to Bristol owners.
