Built in 1881 it was not until 1883 that she was first registered, when on April 30 she was inscribed in London to Frederic Manuelle, a person who had close links with Guernsey and she was noted as the new steam tug at Guernsey on June 7, and on the June 12 her registry was transferred to Guernsey.
Less than a year later on April 25 1884 she was sold to the Garnet Steam Towing Co. (John Blight Secretary),
She did not remain in Guernsey long, as she left on May 20 1886 bound for London and was sold on September 21 1888 to W.L.Smith Five months later on February 21 she passed to T. Kelly and W. H. Pridham, and in quick succession passed to C. H. Pile (June 8 1889) and John Pile (July 31 1889) both ship brokers.
The ships port of registry was moved from Guernsey to Portsmouth on August 6 1889 and in the 1890 edition of the Mercantile Navy List her owners are given solely as Percy W. Gilbert & Thomas Pettle, Town Quay, Portsmouth, but in the ships registry on April 2 1890 there was a bill of sale from John Pile (42 shares) , Percy William Gilert (22 shares) and Thomas Pettle (22 shares) to William Francis Paul and Robert Stocker Paul (64 joint shares) of Ipswich, and the port of registry moved there on July 11 1891.
Three years later her owners had became a limited company of R. & W. Paul Lim. She remained with them until July 10 1912 when she was sold to George Alder of the Royal Exchange, Middlesbrough. She was registered in that port on October 30 that year, and on February 21 1921 the owner formed a limited company.
GARNET lasted until her registry was closed on July 25 1925, the vessel having been sold for breaking, the advice being received from owners (in liquidation).

Built in Holland in 1914 as HENRITTE the vessel was purchased in 1926 by Ulric U. Ash who renamed her GUERNSEYMAN being registered in Guernsey on August 17 that year. Apart from trading to Alderney she was used to transport oil and petrol from England (Thameshaven) to both Alderney and Guernsey this being transported in drums. She arrived in St. Peter Port with her final cargo of oil on January 21 1931, and then moved six days later to St. Sampsons to be laid up. She did not remain there long as she was purchased on July 16 1931 by G. L. Simon and Victor G. Petit of Alderney and then traded mainly between the islands.

She did not remain there long, being sold on February 20 1939 to H.R. Johnson who intended to use the vessel for a trip round the world, with Mr. R. Camp as crew. On February 24 she moved to St. Peter Port to take on supplies, and by March 15 she was in Southampton.
All could not have gone as planned as on April 11 she was sold to H.G. Pound, and only six days later on April 17 was a further sale, this time to Dennis S. Vernon whose address was the Chichester Yacht Club, Lower Lock, Birdham, Sussex. Nothing further has come to light of the subsequent history of the vessel, but she was still registered in Guernsey with the same owner in December 1986.
