1903 May 15. Arrived Jersey from builders. Cost £3,000

1909 14 February. Left for Southampton to have new furnaces and boilers.

1909 28 March. Arrived back in Island.

1911 4 July. Back in service after survey. Davits of small boats raised.

1929 August. Tug moved from her mooring in the middle of the harbour

to a berth alongside the quay.

1930 March 31. Vessel departed for overhaul at Dartmouth. Work included new boilers resulting in a raised fiddly and increased height to

the funnel, the top of which was painted black. A wheelhouse

was also added.

1930 July 5. Vessel arrived back in Jersey from Dartmouth.

1931 15 May. Vessel grounded at Les Minquiers, lost port propeller, towed

back to St. Helier by tug PERNIS.

1942 July 3. Handed over to Germans

1946 July 2 Engine and boiler opened up.

1946 November. Vessel re-commissioned.

1948 July. Vessel laid up.

1946 July 2 Engine and boiler opened up.

1950 February 1. Registered to R.W. Fielding, Leeds, having been sold for

£1,200.

1950 February 18. Departed Jersey at 17:12 under command of Capt.

Fielding, bound for Plymouth.

1950 July 18. Registered as HIRST.

1950 August 21. Sold to Fowey Harbour Commissioners, and registered as

ST. WINNOW in Fowey on September 29.

1954 June 25 Sold to Bennetts Contractors.

1955 July 29. Name changed to WYRECRETE.

1961 August 8. Sold to Fleetwood Sand & Gravel Co. Ltd., name retained.

1967 February 24 Arrived Barrow to be broken up by T.W. Ward Ltd.

1967 March 1. Beached for final demolition.

This wonderful picture shows the DUKE at work, pictured sometime after July 4 1911, when she returned to service with her lifeboats raised. Note the spar and old sail attached to the mast which was pulled to the bow to act as an awning when the vessel was not in use.

Photographed in about 1948, showing the wheelhouse added in 1930, and also the raised fiddly and higher funnel, the result of the new boiler. The black top to the funnel had been added at the same time, and to show that she was not a Southern Railways vessel a thin white line was painted between the black top and the yellow.

1935 28 September. (Saturday). A new barge for Jersey, built by J. Crichton & Co. Ltd., Chester was delivered this week. She was towed by s.s. HOVE and arrived today. It was intended to be named HARO, but

due to there already being a vessel of this name she was named LA MAUVE.

1970 13 October. Vessel departed Jersey for Guernsey for use in the laying of a pipe outfall in the Little Russell. Her mast was removed during this work.

1972 November. Replaced by new dual purpose DUKE OF NORMANDY

(III)

1993 October 20. Towed from St. Helier Harbour to a position off Bouley

Bay, where she was scuttled for use as a diving wreck.

CORMORAN Non-propelled hopper barge.

1936 26 July (Sunday). Tug PENLEATH arrived from Dartmouth towing the new hopper barge CORMORAN for the States of Jersey, Piers & Harbours Committee.

The vessel was used in conjunction with the steam grab dredger in maintaining the depth of water in the harbour. Following the Liberation in 1945 it was decided that in future to employ contract firms to undertake the dredging, and except for taking the odd cargoes of spent oxide to the dumping ground, her only use was to provide the base for the floating platform used on the occasions of visiting Royalty and the carnival water gala at St. Aubin.

The vessel was initially used during the harbour deepening project in 1959?, and she was next used by Demex Ltd in the deepening of the No. 3 berth 1972, at the end of which she was in a dilapidated condition, and such was her state that it was decided to break her up, and she was put ashore at Bel Royal in late December 1972.

It is not clear if she had been sold or chartered to Demex, but as can be seen the name DEMEX had been roughly applied on the bow.

1934 Built as EMS being a river customs launch

In Jersey as F.K.0.1. For German forces.

1945 Taken over by British Forces and loaned to States of Jersey but flew the white ensign.

1945 October 12. As F.K.0.1. Sailed Jersey for Carteret.

1946 June 4. Sailed Jersey for Saint Malo still as F.K.0.1.

1946 August. Replaced in service by steam tug.

1948 July 7. In service at DUKE OF NORMANDY II.

1949 (mid) Back in service having been bought by States of Jersey for £600.

1950 November 21. Laid up at Westward steps after trouble had been found in the cylinder heads and the water circulating pump.

1951 September 18. First registered to States of Jersey.

1951 October 27. Underwent trials after repairs.

1958 February 14. Sailed Jersey for Guernsey for installation of new Mirrlees 290bhp engine, by John Upham Ltd at a cost of £10,275

1958 June 19. Work completed and returned to Jersey.

1960 Wheelhouse painted white during harbour works.

1965 Crest added to funnel.

1967 Early in the year was given an extensive refit, the white line

on the hull was cut down in depth and the name added on the

bows.

1968 July 25. Trials following the installation of a Kelvin Hughes radar.

1969 VHF radio installed.

1972 October 5 Renamed DUKE OF NORMANDY II

1974 July 8 Sold to J. Robinson (A.D. Moffat Ltd.) Robertson Marine Services

1974 9 August. Left Jersey having been sold to Mr. J. Robinson for use in

Scotland.

Will trade under Robinson Marine Services Ltd.

Tug DUKE OF NORMANDY (IV) entering St. Helier Harbour January 14 2015 on return from Guernsey where she had assisted COMMODORE GOODWILL into port. She continued to travel up to St. Peter Port for many weeks during bad weather due to the freighter having problems with her bow thruster.

Pictured on August 22 2015 it shows the alterations made during her ten year refit carried out at Portland. The area between the two bollards has been plated in, extra fendering added on the quarters, and the Jersey Coastguard logo on the side of the wheelhouse painted over.

DUKE OF NORMANDY (IV) pictured on 22 June 2020 shortly after returning from her

fifteen year survey at Gorinchem in Holland, during which a Cobham Sailor

communications system was installed, and her heavy life crane received a major overhaul.

1922 Vessel built as JERSEY LILY to provide marine excursions at Jersey.

1922 June 3 Arrived in Jersey aboard PUFFIN from Liverpool.

1926 October 16. Vessel purchased by Piers & Harbours Committee from the

Jersey Motor Boat Co. (Messrs Renouf & Co) for £250 for beacon work.

1926/27 During the winter the vessel was overhauled and the hull built

up provide a cabin.

1928 May 24. Vessel re-launched as DUCHESS OF NORMANDY(I)

1938 June 15. Vessel re-launched after being re-engined with Thornycroft engines.

At the same time the superstructure was lowered, and the

steering position moved to cockpit.

1946 April 20 to June 16 In service as Pilot boat.

1955 May / June. Vessel re-named JERSEY LILY to free name for her replacement.

1955. Used during the summer at the Minquiers on beacon

maintenance.

1957 June 1. Advert offering vessel for sale. Sold by July 3.

on October 16 1926.

1960 Re-engined.

1967 Vessel replaced.

1967 February 21 New certificate issued, prior to being sold. Engines now 2 x 6cyl Perkins Engines Ltd., made 1960 130 BHP Speed 8.5 knots.

1967. Vessel sold to Gordon Campbell Stuart, who re-built the vessel,

and during this time she remained registered as DUCHESS OF

NORMANDY

1976 March 10. Vessel registered to G. C. Stuart.

1982 February 2 On this date the Department of Trade, Cardiff, authorised a

change of name from DUCHESS OF NORMANDY, to

ISLAND RANGER, owner G. Campbell Stuart, it being

noted that the vessel is now lying in St. Helier.

1982 December 21 Registered as ISLAND RANGER, having been inspected

on that day.

1988 August 15 Vessel sold to Gordon Stanley Palmer, Assistant Harbour Master St Helier.

1991 June 12 Declaration of transfer to Phillip Jeffrey Rose, Engineer.

1997 July 28. Bill of sale by Phillip Jeffrey Rose to Keith William Hutton.

1997 July 30. Application by Keith William Hutton, for vessel to be put on

the Small Ships Register.

….... Vessel sold to Mr Stephan Downey.

2012 January 06. Name changed to VIBRANT MOTION.

2014 May 30. Vessel scrapped by Harbours Dept. at La Collette, Jersey.

1967 Built for the States of Jersey, cost £20,000

1967 20 July. (Thursday) Vessel named at Hamble by Mrs. W. K. Krichefski using Normandy cider.

1967 21 July (Friday) Vessel arrived in Jersey at 22:30.

1982 July 23 (Friday). Vessel caught fire and later sank.

1982 27 July. Vessel raised and towed into St. Helier Harbour.

The hull was sold by the underwriters to owners who intended to rebuild the vessel, but little was achieved, and eleven year later the hull was

placed on a road trailer for transportation to England.

1993 25 September. Hull on trailer at Elizabeth Harbour awaiting departure.

DUCHESS OF NORMANDY (III) May 28 1980. Graeme Mercier at the wheel.

DUCHESS OF NORMANDY (IV)

1978 Built as KITTIWAKE II.

1982 Vessel acquired from Cowes & District Laundry Co for £55,000, having been used for servicing shipping in the Solent.

1982 September 4. Vessel arrived in Jersey.

1982 16 September (Thursday). Vessel named DUCHESS OF NORMANDY

in St. Helier by Mrs Betty Binnington.

2004 December 22. Sold to Chris Cooke. Renamed LA DUCHESSE

2006 June 16. Sold to the Jersey Oyster Co. Ltd.

Renamed LA DUCHESSE DE NORMANDIE

2010 February 22. Sold to Steve Luce. Name retained.

2016 October. Vessel laid-up at St. Aubin, and placed on the sale list.

2017 March. Sold to Guernsey owners.
