The Friends of the Maritime Museum were formed originally to promote the setting up of a maritime museum in Jersey, and following the opening in 1996, the Friends have remained in existence to support the Heritage Trust by managing and helping to maintain the vessels in the Historic fleet.
The Friends have also devised a database programme which encompasses the details of all Jersey registered sailing vessels together with the records of the Jersey Merchant Seamen’s Benefit Society. Although not yet complete the database has already proved invaluable to those undertaking research into their family history.
The Friends continue to hold evening events to foster interest in maritime matters, and publish a Newsletter four times a year.
